Making your home cosy and welcoming!

Whilst adjusting to the dark nights and mornings can remind us of the less pleasant side of winter, it also means that its time to make our homes cosy and welcoming!

So, pack away the fresh floral prints, ditch the pastel accessories, and hunt down some fantastic winter accessories to make your home warm and welcoming.

Embrace colour – Rich and vibrant, is the only way to go colour wise. Jewel like shades of ruby, emerald, sapphire, and gold are always a winner and can be integrated into many existing colour schemes bringing a real richness to any room. Think scatter cushions, floral displays, blankets and throws, or even change your wall colour if you’re feeling ambitious. Adding a rug, either to a hard floor or carpet, can bring added warmth and colour; simply buy a rug grip to ensure there’s no slipping or curling up making it safe to walk on.

Fantastic fabrics – Choosing the right fabric for your accessories can add a real difference too. Smooth velvet, fake fur and opulent silks can add a richness and opulence to the room. A fake fur throw, or chunky knot blanket on a bed makes it look hugely inviting on a cold winter’s night, or a velvet cushion in your favourite armchair will make it look super cosy.

Lights down – Adjusting the lighting in your home can make it feel cosier too so instead of bright ceiling lights, invest in some table or floor lights that can be placed around your home to bring a warm glow. Just make sure that visibility is good enough so that there are no trips or falls! Adding candles to homes are perfect too and they don’t have to be real. Fake candles with flickering flames look super effective too and remove any worry about naked flames and fire risks.

Something in the air – Home fragrance is big business and adding a winter fragrance to your home can evoke a feeling of warmth and welcome. There’s lots to choose from that have scents of spruce and cinnamon to name just two fragrances synonymous with winter or, there is always ‘Winter’ by the White Company – always a winner when the mercury drops.
